This is a brilliant approach — applying the insights of Montessori training to the care of Alzheimers and other demential patients. The results are extraordinarily valuable because they are practical! My mother, suffering from Alzheimers, had fallen and been taken to the hospital. I was able to guide the nurses in moving slowly and gently, while I held my mother’s hand for reassurance. When they repeated things more loudly after getting no response from my mother, I was able to calmly explain that she could hear them, she just couldn’t understand them. My mother was able to receive the care she needed without the anxiety reaction and escalation that often happens in these situations. Thank you, Montessori Alzheimers Project!
