Lyle Weinstein is the author of The Alzheimer’s Family Manual. In it, he brought together his family’s experience of dealing with his father’s early onset Alzheimer’s in the form of an audiotape in order to help other families navigate these difficult waters. Then, following several years of working with families and family caregivers as a Board member of the Santa Barbara Alzheimer’s Association, The Alzheimer’s Family Manual was reissued as a book with additional material gleaned from serving families and friends.
Riza Weinstein is a long time Montessori parent, teacher, and founder of the Lions Gate Montessori community of school in Vancouver BC. Through her experience working with developing children, and her understanding of the impact of dementia on both individuals and caregivers, it became clear that Montessori’s educational insights would be extremely helpful for dementia patients.
Greg MacDonald is a Montessori parent, teacher and prominent trainer of Montessori teachers with multi-cultural experience in communicating the essence and practice of Montessori education. In a brief discussion, Greg immediately saw the need and understood the importance of training Alzheimer’s caregivers in Montessori methods.
And so, through the joining of these perspectives the Montessori Alzheimer’s Project was born.
