Understanding, kindness and warmth are often thought of as simply part of one’s personality. While that may be true, one’s good heart is often covered over by misunderstanding and fear. Many times, the obstacle is that fear keeps you at a distance when what is needed is getting closer.
The MAP approach includes contemplations to enable you to understand what your loved one is going through, what the primary caregiver, family members and others might be experiencing.
With that understanding comes the ability to listen, to be stable in the midst of the changes wrought by dementia on individuals, spouses, family and friends.
Being able to listen stably is the foundation of understanding and with understanding, kindness and warmth arise spontaneously.
